Golden Horn green light for Breeders Cup

Trainer John Gosden gave his stable star Golden Horn the green light Friday to bring the curtain down on a triumphant racing career in next weekend’s Breeders Cup Turf.

British bookmakers make Frankie Dettori’s mount the 4-7 favourite to add Saturday’s race in Kentucky to wins in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, Epsom Derby, Irish Champion Stakes and Eclipse Stakes.

“Golden Horn worked on Wednesday and did two canters this morning,” Gosden told The Racing Post.

“He seems in good form and will jet out of Stansted to Louisville in the morning.

“Firm suits us fine, we just don’t want too much rain over there. It’s a tight track over a distance of about a circuit and a half but Golden Horn is pretty handy so should be fine around there.

“I haven’t looked at the opposition yet, I’ll worry about that when I get there on Wednesday.”

Golden Horn is part of a strong European challenge at the two-day Breeders’ Cup festival where American Pharoah runs in the showpiece $5 million (4.4 million euros) Classic.

Among those set to take on the Bob Baffert-trained Triple Crown conqueror is English and Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Gleneagles, out of luck on unsuitably soft going at Ascot last weekend.
