Francia could be decent

The Justin Snaith-trained filly was heavily backed that day which could indicate she has more wins to come.

It is not easy to win at Durbanville over 1300m on your first start so to do it after being slow away shows her promise.

Admittedly the horse that followed her home, Playboy Buddy did not win when next time out but it will not be long before Playboy Buddy does win.

The Snaith yard is once again going to be the main focus for most punters on the day.

The Australian-bred Duke The Duke, in Race 1, made good improvement from his first start to his second when fourth last time out and the Snaith-Bernard Fayd’Herbe combination could start the meeting on a winning note.

It is possible that in time to come we could see Duke The Duke racing over further than this 1400m.

The Mike Bass yard was in tremendous form a week ago and their entrant Barnstable looks the main threat.

Race 2 also looks likely to become a match race between those two yards when Ernie and Buckinghampshire clash.

Both were promising juveniles who are making their first runs as three-year-olds, Ernie having had the unkindest cut of all, having been gelded last month.

The 1000m trip could suit Buckinghampshire more than it will Ernie.

Durban Beach (another Snaith runner) was a promising fourth behind Ernie when both made their debuts in January this year and although returning from a lengthy rest (and also being gelded) could prove better than maiden class and win race 3 over 1000m.

Justin’s charge, the filly Sabrina Fair in Race 4, has fair recent form but it is hard to see her beating the Australian import Midnight Spy.

The Dean Kannemeyer-trained three-year-old was touched off on the line over this track and trip last month and she could go one better this time out.

Some lightly raced not yet exposed three-year-olds will do battle in the lucky last race and the Mike Bass-trained Brilliant Crimson gets the vote to score.

The step up to 1600m seemed to suit the Trippi colt when winning last time out and from a good draw Grant van Niekerk can do the steering him home trick.
