Follow Bass at Fairview

Western Cape trainer Mike Bass makes the trip to Port Elizabeth with stable jockey Grant van Niekerk and three runners today and they could come away with three winners.

The Listed Lady’s Slipper Stakes for two-year-old fillies tops the card and Bass sends out Extradite for this race over 1400m.

This daughter of Mambo In Seattle is beautifully bred and although she has not raced over the distance, based on the form of her siblings, 1400m will be no problem. She has run behind some very useful sorts, including a third to The Merry Widow, who went on to win her next two starts, including a feature race, on debut, and a second place behind The Secret Is Out, who is unbeaten in three starts and won the Grade 1 Allan Robertson Championship at Scottsville last Saturday.

She won her maiden at the third time of asking and then finished a 1.25-length second behind talented stable companion Wake Up Maggie, who is performing well in KwaZulu-Natal.

Bass seems to have found the perfect race for her and from No 3 draw will prove very hard to beat.

O Tamara ran closer to The Merry Widow than Extradite but she was not having her first run so was substantively more experienced at that stage of her career. She has won over the course and distance which is in her favour and will also have the services of Andrew Fortune. However, they jump from barrier No 11.

Bass also saddles Limpopo River in Race 3 over 1600m and Waity Katie in Race 7 over 1400m and both are likely to go off as justifiable favourites.
