Emperors Palace Charity Mile: Laird could end up on top
When the draw is made for the R600,000 Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile last Wednesday, I asked TV presenter Neil Andrews, who has been a regular celebrity at this race for a number of years, if he had yet represented a winning charity.
“No,” he replied, “but this year will be my first.” The charity he represents is Welamlambo Primary After care centre and the horse they drew is Bouclette Top.
I have to agree with Andrews.
This year he looks to be on a winner. Trainer Alec Laird saddles three runner in this Grade 2 race over 1600m at Turfontein tomorrow, and with a bit of luck, he could have two of three – Bouclette Top and Bezanova – fight out the finish.
