Electric Jet looks fully charged again

The full brother to well-performed E-Jet looked to be heading for an equally promising racing career when he went off at 5-10 on debut and coasted home by 4.25 lengths.

That was back in September 2012, but sadly the son of Jet Master had soundness issues. His second outing – in May 2013 – was dismal, as he trailed in at the back of a 14-horse field. He was then gelded and tried out on the Vaal sand. That all proved to be totally fruitless.

However, in August the Mike de Kock-trained runner had his first outing on the Polytrack at Greyville and there was finally a glimmer of hope. Electric Jet, following a slow start, ran on well enough to finish a 2.05-length fifth behind Royal Colours over 2000m.

Earlier this month he came out in a MR 70 Handicap over 1800m at the same track and, after more than two years, Electric Jet finally notched up his second career win. He came through late under Warren Kennedy to beat Arch Rival by 0.50 lengths.

Electric Jet appeared to win with more authority than the margin indicates and the fact that he came away with just a 1.5kg penalty could count in his favour.

With that victory under his belt, Electric Jet can go on to score again when he lines up in Race 7 at Greyville today, a MR 78 Handicap over 1800m, also on the Polytrack. Although he takes a jump in class, the five year old carries just 52kg. Kennedy retains the ride.

Buck Shot has won his last two races on the turf at Scottsville with ease and if he is able to translate that form to the Polytrack Mark Dixon’s charge has to be a massive runner. Brandon Lerena takes the ride.

Jamal has been incredibly consistent since being tried on the Polytrack and has placed five times in five starts. Anton Marcus climbs aboard for the first time so the Frank Robinson-trained runner deserves respect.

In his last start Jamal finished a 1.75-length third behind Cat In Command over 1600m and, based on his run over 2000m in which he was beaten a neck by Roy’s Jet, the additional 200m should be in his favour.
