Door opens for Vauclair

The Tara Laing yard has four of the nine runners carded and best of them looks to be Vauclair.

This Var gelding has won four times in nine starts since being gelded and looked a bit unlucky when caught too far back in a very fast run 1000m race won in South African record time by Blizzard Belle.

All four of his last wins were over 1200m.

Stable companions Black Toga and Captain’s Reserve will be getting a chunk of weight from Vauclair and cannot be lightly dismissed.

Gogetthesheriff is clearly a better horse over further than the 1200m of this race but will have the services of in-form Andrew Fortune.

Top weight Al Don Cumarco could earn some minor money.

One Justin Snaith runner who was amiss in her last start was Sunset Tripp who runs in Race 2, a Conditions Plate over 1400m.

The Trippi filly pulled up stiff when well beaten earlier this month but is clearly a lot better than that run would suggest and thrashed fellow runner Purely Atomic by 2.25 lengths in her previous start.

Nabucco, in Race 3, did not show his best in his last run on the Polytrack after a close up runner-up berth behind Captain Quick and that may have hinted that the Tiger Ridge gelding may now need a bit further but trainer Dorie Sham may know better.

Whinking Casanova and Green Door will prove dangerous foes.

Eternal Winter has done well in her new yard and can provide trainer Gavin Smith with a winner in Race 4.

This Western Winter filly should be a bit better than some modest rivals.

Fly Like The Wind beat a fair yardstick in Briar Kling by a length and the four points he picked up for that win should not be enough to stop this Windrush gelding from following up and winning Race 8, a MR 72 Handicap over 1600m.
