Cheyne to make amends on Vous Et Var

Back over his preferred distance of 1200m, Vous Et Var should resume winning ways in the penultimate MR 100 event when racing takes to the Fairview Polytrack on Friday.

Strongly fancied last time, Greg Cheyne’s mount found rising minimum trip specialist Rock Deejay a little too hot to handle and only got going when the race was effectively over.

The switch to the Poly surface should present no problems, as he has won over this trip on the Greyville equivalent, and if repeating his performance behind the classy Tevez in a Pinnacle Stakes a month ago the five-year-old gelding will take a power of beating.

On the face of it a string of unplaced runs hardly makes the filly Favour’s Pride leap off the page as a possible danger. However she has won two from three over the course and distance, with the most recent coming against males in June.

Drawn very poorly in recent Poly appearances, she now has the benefit of pole position with the in-form Jarryd Penny up, and carries a mere 52,5kg. That makes an appealing combination in my book, and while up in class she could pull off a surprise.

Miracle Bureau, Sir Duke and classy top weight Villa Del Largo are others worth including if looking further afield.

For those looking for a value bet you could do worse than Seattle Swing in the fourth, a MR 66 over 1900m. While it is difficult to be too confident about a fellow who has gone winless for almost two years, he found an abundance of trouble before finishing well to go down an unlucky half-length in similar company last time.

With an effective 50,5kg once his apprentice’s claim is deducted he should be right there once again in what appears an open contest.
