Cat In Command is poised to pounce

Although he has not won for some time there are a few reasons to think six-year-old gelding Cat In Command could be ready to strike and gets the vote to score In Race 5 over 1400m on the Greyville Polytrack today.

Cat In Command has six wins to his credit but has been battling to regain the winning thread.

That can all change as he is back over the distance that saw him run his best race this year and his merit rating has taken a tumble which will allow him to drop into this lower MR 75 division handicap.

Patrick Lunn’s gelding was as high as a 87 once and has won off a 84 in a handicap so his current rating of 75 has him well in if he can show his best form.

It was over this course and distance in January Cat In Command was third behind Last Tiger and was running on strongly at the finish.

Jockey Stuart Randolph has recently returned to the saddle after an injury-enforced break and gets the ride.

The race looks competitive though and Var Du Bois and King Django are two others to consider.

Var Du Bois returned from a lengthy break and did well to finish third behind Prince Myshkin last time and will have to overcome the dreaded second run back.

King Django has a terrible draw for jockey Anthony Delpech to overcome and this Go Deputy colt has a terrible habit of running on only when the race is all but over. It will not be easy to convert the three runner-up berths in his last four starts into a victory this time.

It is not often that a Paul Gadsby-trained debutant attracts betting support as he likes to leave them with something so they can improve. But Lucius Fox attracted attention when runner-up behind On The Boulevard on debut.

This Var colt showed good pace and it could be a shrewd move to take him to the Polytrack this time. Do not be surprised if Lucius Fox makes all the running.
