Bid on Du Plessis at Fairview

Only eight horses are carded to go to post but the form is so close one can make a case for most of the runners. Luck on the day could decide the outcome of this event but regrettably luck is not a detail one can factor in unless one is a soothsayer and know on whom the fortune will fall.

Sometimes a trainer is able to create their own luck and that could happen when they have more than one runner in the field. It does help to use one runner to set up the race for another as far as the pace is concerned and as such, it could pay to look at the two horses from the Renate du Plessis stable.

She saddles Rahvar and All The Bids and based on their runs behind Masterly on 2 September, there is nothing separating the pair. That race was over 1900m and Rahvar, carrying 58.5kg, finished a 3.75-length third behind the winner. All The Bids, carrying 53kg, finished 3.85 lengths back in fourth. All The Bids is now 0.5kg better off so that should give him a slight edge.

His recent form seems to indicate he is better over further but of his 11 wins, five have been over 1600m so this trip will not be a problem. The fact Chase Maujean, who has ridden both, has taken the ride on Rahvar may be of significant but with Muzi Yeni on All The Bids and just 52.5kg on his back, the son of Daring Bid could just have the edge.

Kiss Me Hardy seemed to lose his way at the start of the season but since he enjoyed his first run at Fairview and scored a decent 0.50-length victory over Sir Duke. He would be a natural selection if one was convinced he would see out 1600m but in six starts he has only managed a third and one fourth place. Craig Zackey takes the ride.
