Bella Spumante to sparkle

Bella Spumante lines up in Race 8, a FM 76 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1200m on the Polytrack.

This daughter of Dynasty joined Alan Greeff’s yard from Brett Crawford in Cape Town and made a devastating debut for her new yard. Running in a Novice Plate for fillies and mares over 1400m on the turf track, Bella Spumante found some betting support, coming in to 7-1 from an opening call of 10-1.

They clearly felt she had a winning chance but perhaps the manner of the victory may have surprised her connections as Bella Spumante ran clear of her rivals to beat So Suspect by 5.25 lengths.

What is strongly in her favour is because that last event was a plate race the handicappers can only give her a maximum penalty of 3kg.  Had it been a handicap she would have probably got a far bigger penalty and in all likelihood Bella Spumante is still better than her rating of 77.

She has only raced 10 times for two wins and her maiden victory was over 1200m so there should not be too much concern that she’s coming back in distance. However, this will be her first race on the Polytrack and only the race will tell how well she handles the surface.

Charles Ndlovu rode her last time but Andrew Fortune takes the ride on this occasion. They are well drawn at No 2.

Yvette Bremner-trained Koldona could be next best as she is proven on the Polytrack but will have to jump from barrier No 12.
