Alexis to bounce back
Trainer Brett Crawford and all his connections must have been very disappointed in Alexis’s run in the Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes at Kenilworth in November as she was fancied to go close after some dazzling earlier displays.
FILE PICTURE: Despite missing out on a warm-up run trainer Brett Crawford says Wavin’ Flag will be in the pink of condition in Saturday’s R2-million Sansui Summer Cup over 2000m at Turffontein.
A return to the course-and-distance of her most impressive performance to date could see Alexis regain the winning thread and capture Race 7, a FM 87 Handicap over 1200m at Kenilworth today.
This Dynasty filly did not show on her debut when fifth to the very decent Cold As Ice but the soft going on the day in August could have been against her. She then stepped out again in September and it was entirely a different matter on firmer going as she strolled home to an impressive 5.25-length defeat of Gold And Silver. The form of that win was strongly franked as Gold and Silver has subsequently won twice comfortably.
The Corne Orffer-ridden filly was next brought out in early November and without any fuss at all she galloped away from subsequent winner Chestnut Dancer by 2.25 lengths.
Als Bonanza has good recent form but will be giving 1.5kg away to her younger rival and this could be her undoing. Diva’s Daughter has the same problem and also has six lengths to find on Als Bonanza on their last run behind Red Flame.
Perpetua did well to win her latest but has always battled to reproduce her best form over the slightly longer trip.
Fairy Maker and Winter’s Eve don’t look to have the scope of Alexis but are capable of earning stake cheques.
