2016 J&B Met – Get excited

Few racing events hold the prestige that the J&B Met has to offer, and Cape Town’s 2016 showpiece event is set to deliver a mouthwatering racing and lifestyle display yet again.

For the Grade 1 R2.5 million J&B Met over 2000m at Kenilworth, racing fans have the tantalising prospect of 2015’s run-away winner, Futura, matching up against his stable companion (and winner of the 2014 Durban July), Legislate. If that’s not enough for you, then add 2015’s SA Derby winner, Legal Eagle, to the mix as the highest rated horse to sign up and you’d be bonkers to pass this one up.

HF Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut scorer, Captain America (the recent winner of the Grade 2 Lanzerac Green Point), will represent Brett Crawford, who coincidentally trained Futura when he won in 2015’s Met.

Other notables among the star-studded entry include the Sean Tarry-trained Daily News and SA Classic winner French Navy, Geoff Woodruff’s Sansui Summer Cup one-two Master Sabina and Deo Juvente, this year’s Durban July hero Power King, Woolavington heroine Smart Call, Rising Sun Gold Challenge winner King Of Pain and Durban July runner-up Punta Arenas.

As of yet there are no three-year-olds among the entrants, but one more supplementary entry stage remains on 11 January. A week later, the final field will be announced for what is destined to be a historic outing in Cape Town on the 30th of January.

COMPETITION:

To celebrate this fantastic event, The Citizen – together with J&B – is giving away what can only be described as a 2016 Met dream. Trust us, you don’t want to miss out on this one.
