The tournament, a 2014 Hockey World Cup qualifier event, would be played in Nairobi from November 18 to 23 after being postponed from its original dates when a bomb exploded in the Westgate shopping mall in the east African city in September.
There was once change to the women’s team with goalkeeper Phume Mbande replacing Sanani Mangisa, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon and had undergone surgery.
In the men’s team, defenders Matt Guise-Brown and Andrew Cronje were unavailable and Francois Pretorius and debutant Greg Last had been called up to replace them.
The South African teams were the reigning African champions, having won the last of the biennual events in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe in September 2011.
There four men’s teams competing at Nairobi’s City Park Stadium are South Africa, Egypt, Ghana and Kenya. The four women’s teams are South Africa, Ghana, Kenya and Tanzania.
