Historic cars back in action

Kyalami will host round two of this year's Midas Historic Tour on Saturday, with the Hitachi Race Day boasting seven categories of historic race cars.

Challenging him will be Jonathan du Toit (Chevy Nova), Thomas Falkiner (Castrol Mustang), Mark du Toit (Chevelle) and Ferdi van Niekerk (Ford Mustang).

The two-litre class will feature the likes of Roy Prando (Alfa GTA), Alan Poulter (Volvo 122), Clive Densham (Alfa GTA), Rob Gearing (BMW 2002), plus the Alfa Giuliettas of Laurence Davies, Marc Miller, Patrick Gearing and John Simpson.

> The Pre-1966 Le Mans Sports & GT races will see Mark du Toit (Lola T70 Ford Spyder) taking on Ross Lazarus (Lazarus Ford GT40), Oliver Dalais (Marlboro Crane Hire Ford GT40), Warren Lombaard (Cobra Ford), Peter Lindenberg (Lazarus Ford Daytona), Jonathan du Toit (Ford Daytona), Evert Botha (Porsche 365), Dennis McBeath (Mpiti Renault) and Chad ten Doeschate (GSM Dart).

> The International Sports Racing Prototype races will have the big Porsche 917 of Colin Frost together with the Lola T70 of Neil Lobb and the new Chevron B19 of Colin Ellison.

Dino Scribante (Porsche 911) will take on the identical cars of George Avvakoumides, Mike Maurice and Fritz Kleynhans, with Jonathan du Toit the dark horse in his Chevron B8.

Finally, former cricket star Clive Rice will make his appearance in a Cobra Ford.

v Jannie van Rooyen (Alfa Giulia) will be a new face in the Pre-1966 Little Giants category, challenged by Trevor Tuck (Alfa Ti), Nick Parrot (MGB), Ferdie van Niekerk (Porsche 356), Les MacLeod (MGB Coupe), Ed Boles (Mini Cooper), Frank Copping (Renault Dauphine) and Terence Botes (Mini Cooper) among others.

Other categories in action will include the Pre-1977 Historic Saloons, Formula Ford Kent, Marque Cars, the Sabat Lotus Challenge and the Sabela Marque Cars.

The day will end with a one-hour endurance race for Pre-1984 Sports and GT cars.

Generally speaking, the final event starts at dusk and runs into darkness, to end the event on a spectacular note.

The event will raise funds for cancer research with the on-track business supported by a number of stalls, selling everything from model cars to sweets and biltong.
