Pretoria’s Ilze Hattingh bowed out of the singles on Wednesday, losing 6-4 6-4 to Russian 10th seed Anastasiya Komardina.
“As disappointed as I am to have lost today, I am happy to have had a great run in Melbourne,” Hattingh said.
“I had my chances against Anastasiya but didn’t capitalise. Had I won some of the many break points I had, it could have been a different result.
“But all credit to Anastasiya who was the better player on the day and deserved the win for keeping such good composure.”
The left-handed Russian troubled Hattingh throughout. Hattingh had her chances with 11 break-point opportunities but only converted one of them.
