The newly-launched Cycle Jozi Week, from 16 to 22 March 2015, is set to have the citizens of the city gearing up for endless hours of speed, power and excitement.
This proud week-long cycling initiative follows from the successful Freedom Rides held in and around the city over the past two years.
The week of cycling mania is made possible through a partnership between key stakeholders in the form of the City of Johannesburg Council, lead sponsor Hollard Insurance, Qhubeka (the official charity of the week, which will support the distribution of bicycles in areas including Soweto, Alexandra and Diepsloot) and Linkd Environmental Services (event organisers).
The City of Johannesburg will be hoping that cycling enthusiasts will come out in great numbers throughout the week, but none more so than at the final stage of the Cycle Jozi Week on Sunday, 22 March (08h00 to 12h00), known as the Freedom Ride, with a route from Sandton, via Alexandra and back to Sandton, along the city’s cycle lanes. The Provincial Department of Transport has pledged its support to this exciting ride.
The Freedom Ride taking place this Sunday , 22 March from 06:00 till 14:00 will impact on various roads during the morning. Most of the road closures are rolling road closures manned by points men that will manage traffic flow. Herewith included are maps outlining access end egress routes and parking facilities. Note that JMPD will be impounding illegally parked vehicles and normal traffic enforcement will be in place.
Road Closures are as follow :
