Extreme clash of the titans at last EFC
The Extreme Fighting Championship brings the curtain down on the year for mixed martial arts in one of the biggest ways possible – a clash between the continent's two best heavyweights at the Coca-Cola Dome tonight.

It’s a fight of titanic proportions, not just because the combatants weighed-in in excess of 110kg yesterday, but because Andrew van Zyl and Ruan Potts have a history as opponents with the organisation’s heavyweight title belt at the centre of the story.
Tonight’s bout will see Van Zyl put his title on the line as the pair try and settle the trilogy. The champion has only ever lost once, to Potts, and the challenger has the same statistic except that this time around there’s his old title adding to the feeling of revenge.
Potts was forced to surrender his crown to Van Zyl back at
EFC 18 after an epic clash over five rounds but he’s been desperate to get back into contention once more and is coming off two impressive victories.
On those occasion’s he took his opponents, Mahmoud Hassan and Ricky Misholas, to the ground forcing them to submit quickly. He’ll have to work hard to win here though due to the fact that Van Zyl, nicknamed “One Gear” due to his intensity, is quite possibly the most well-rounded athlete within the organisation.
Van Zyl’s chin has been tested to the point where it’s assumed that it’s made of granite so it will need to be a heavy hand that fells the champion which means that fans could be treated to another five round thriller.
The remainder of the main card for EFC26 sees Michiel Opperman clash with Henry Fadipe in the main supporting bout at welterweight while Liam Cleland makes a return when he takes on Jason Culverwell in a middleweight contest.
Abdul Hassan drops down to the bantamweight division to take on Matt Buirski while Alain Ilungaa and Peter Nyid meet in what promises to be a striking featherweight battle.
