WATCH: Twitter not chuffed with Elgar’s F-bomb

Some users believe the Proteas skipper's reaction to getting out was unbecoming of a leader. WARNING: Strong language.

Dean Elgar has come under fire from Twitter users for his on-field behaviour after getting out early on day one of the third Test against Pakistan at the Wanderers on Friday.

The 31-year-old opener is the Proteas’ stand-in captain for the match following Faf du Plessis’ suspension and didn’t endear himself to some for yelling an expletive while he was walking off, which was caught on television.

Elgar had said in the build-up that he wanted to savour his captaincy opportunity more than he did during a “chaotic” first Test as captain against England at Lord’s in 2017.

However, the gritty left-hander is also known as a man who sets very high standards for himself and constantly berates himself during net sessions.

That streak clearly got the better of him in this instance and some fans believes it’s unbecoming of a player in a leadership role.
