The South African cricket selectors have left Andile Phehlukwayo out of the Proteas’ T20 squad to contest the World Cup in the UAE and Oman in October and November.
The all-rounder has struggled with form of late, with the selectors opting rather for Wiaan Mulder and Dwaine Pretorius, who is back in the side after missing the tours to Pakistan and the West Indies. He is currently with the team in Sri Lanka.
There are also three spinners in the squad, namely Tabraiz Shamsi, the number one bowler in the world, Keshav Maharaj and Bjorn Fortuin.
George Linde is with Phehlukwayo on the reserve list. The other reserve is bowler Lizaad Williams.
The side will be captained by Temba Bavuma.
The Proteas’ first match at the World Cup is against Australia on 23 October.
The Super 12 section of the event will take place from 23 October to 14 November with South Africa playing in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
