Proteas captain Temba Bavuma will miss both his team’s World Cup warm-up matches in India, Cricket South Africa confirmed on Thursday.
Bavuma, who has returned home for personal reasons, will not play in the warm-up games against Afghanistan on Friday and New Zealand on Monday. Both matches will be contested in Thiruvananthapuram.
In his absence, national T20 captain Aiden Markram will take the reins of the ODI side.
Bavuma is expected to link up with the SA team again next week, ahead of their first official World Cup match against Sri Lanka in Delhi on 7 October.
The Proteas will be targeting their first Cricket World Cup trophy in any format.
The final of the six-week tournament will be played in Ahmedabad on 19 November.
