Coetsee hunting first win in 17 years

First-round leader Theunis Spangenberg signed for 72 as he was joined by the chasing Coetsee.

“It’s been 17 years since I won, so I can’t wait for the next one,” Coetsee said after his round.

“It’s also been a while since I’ve led after 36 holes, but with 22 years of experience I’m very excited for the weekend.”

Coetsee said an aggressive strategy had paid dividends in his good scoring. “I’m attacking it at the moment and I hit the driver about eight times today.

“I like the tight courses where you have to think and I can’t wait for the next two days.”

Overnight leader Spangenberg maintained the top position after he settled for level par in the second round, and the Kathu local was pleased to stay in the mix after shooting a 62 on day one.

“I would have taken 72 at the start of the day,” said Spangenberg.

“The putter didn’t work as well as yesterday, but I’m still comfortable and we’re still in there.”

Dayne Moore was the leading Zambian at the halfway mark on two-under-par. The 21-year-old from Ndola Golf Club carded rounds of 68, 74 to tie for 24th ahead of the final two rounds.
