South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel will be aiming to turn in a strong performance at the Memorial Tournament, in Ohio, on the PGA Tour starting on Thursday.
While a win or a top-10 finish has eluded Schwartzel at the Memorial Tournament on the PGA Tour up to now, his current form and the aim of maintaining that until the US Open in a few weeks’ time makes him a genuine threat when he tees off.
Teaming up with compatriot Louis Oosthuizen at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, where they finished third seemed to have rejuvenated the 2011 Masters champion.
Before then, he had missed the cut at the Masters and again the next week at the RCB Heritage.
“Yeah, I started playing well there,” he said of that result in New Orleans after the Players Championship where he came second.
“It’s been feeling good for about a month, two months now. It just hasn’t sort of kicked in. But yeah, I think playing with Louis freed me up a bit, and I’ve got good feelings. You know, just started playing really nice. I feel like I’m playing the way I should play.”
Before the Players Championship, Schwartzel finished in a share of ninth at the Wells Fargo Championship and for all onlookers, it was obvious that Schwartzel’s form was peaking timeously ahead of the second major of the year.
