Cars only at Kyalami finale

THE 2013 Super Series will be concluded at Kyalami this Saturday - sadly with only four-wheeler racing on the programme.

With the motorcycle brigade electing to finish their season elsewhere, Kyalami visitors will not get to see the scary spectacle that has typified national two-wheeler circuit racing this season. On the other hand spectators will witness the conclusion of four South African championships.

Topping the show will be the final three rounds of this year’s Bridgestone Production Car championships, with both 2013 titles still undecided. Reigning champion Michael Stephen will go to Kyalami as the Class A victory favourite in his Engen Xtreme Audi S4.

Stephen enjoys a substantial points advantage over his closest rival, Etienne van der Linde (Afrox Pirtek BMW 335i), and the two drivers will be acutely aware that small mistakes could turn the scales in either direction.

Van der Linde will be supported by Johan Fourie in the team’s second Afrox Pirtek BMW, while three other Audi drivers could interfere on behalf of Stephen.

They are Gennaro Bonafede (Afrox Audi S4), Melvill Priest (Mueller Sport Medicine Audi S4) and Tschops Sipuka (Engen Extreme Audi S4).

Hennie Groenewald could also spring surprises in his lone Sasol Subaru WRX, with the field rounded out by youngster Roman de Beer (BMW 335i).

Graeme Nathan (IndyOil Golf GTI) and Gavin Cronje (Castrol MINI Cooper S) will fight for the year’s Class T title with Nathan currently at a points advantage.

Others able to win races on the day include Jacques Joubert (IndyOil Golf GTI), Lee Thompson (Castrol MINI Cooper S), Gary Formato (Castrol Ford Focus ST), Michael van Rooyen (Williams Hunt Chevrolet Cruze), Shaun Duminy (Castrol Ford Focus ST) and Devin Robertson (Liqui Moly Renault Megane).

v The Formula 1600 single seater category will see the conclusion of a season long fight between two young brothers.

The siblings, Jason and Keegan Campos, will do battle in their identical Etana Mygale models with either of them set to emerge as the champion.

Chasing them will be the likes of Scott Temple (GWM/Ferodo Mygale), Graham Hepburn (Suburban Panelbeaters Mygale), Bevan Williams (Right Way Mygale) and Dean Venter (Turnfab Engineering Mygale).

v Robert Wolk (Midas FVW) has already won the Formula Volkswagen championship and attention will shift to the fight for second place.

Nicholas van Weely (Anglo Rand FVW), Werner Scholtz (Motorvia FVW) and Chris Shorter (Kiss & Kill FVW) could all take the position.

Behind them Sebastian Lanzetti (IVMA FVW) should dice with Matthew Merton (Hypress FVW) and Nic Chapman (Hollard FVW).
