Big Z international to be the best ever

The occasion will be the venue’s annual international historic racing festival, incorporating both cars and motorcycles from the fifties, sixties and seventies.

This weekend’s meeting, the 13th consecutive of its kind, will be the country’s biggest historical race meeting yet, with more than 400 cars and motorcycles involved over the two days.

Saturday will see more than 300 racing cars taking to the tarmac, ranging from legendary saloon cars, via Le Mans sports and GT cars and classic single seater racers, to some of the country’s quickest current club racing vehicles.

They will mostly be driven by South Africans, plus a healthy sprinkling of visitors from the Netherlands, Sweden and Britain.

On Sunday more than 100 historic motorcycles, including legendary Isle of Man TT and Grand Prix machines, will tackle a full racing programme, again ridden by overseas and local riders.

The day’s activities will include an appearance by a priceless collection of Nortons from the British manufacturer’s museum, plus the official launch of the latest Norton Superbike.

The two-day event is a true feast of nostalgia, and the Zwartkops Raceway will bend over backwards to ensure spectators’ satisfaction.

To begin with, all spectators will be invited to visit the pits on foot at any time and look at the cars and bikes from close, up while chatting to drivers and riders.

To make things easier, two golf carts will haul trailers with seats between the grandstands and pit gates throughout the two days – you simply hop on and tell them where to drop you.

For more information visit the Zwartkops website on www.zwartkops.co.za or contact the circuit office on 012 384 2299.

Tickets are sold by Computicket for a discounted price of R140 per adult, R80 per students R80 with kids under 12 going for free.

You could also buy tickets at the gate on Saturday for R160 per adult, R100 per student, and children under 12 free.

See you at Zwartkops.
