Adilson leads at Fancourt

Adilson did not drop a shot on the course on which the final round of the R3.75-million tournament will be played.

The full field will complete a round on The Links at Fancourt, Outeniqua and Montagu, before a cut will be made ahead of the final round to determine the top 65 players.

“I hit the ball so well,” Da Silva said after his round.

“I’m very happy, even though I missed a couple of putts out there. But I just couldn’t hit the ball any better. The greens are very good, and I maybe slightly misread a couple, but I’m chuffed.”

Also completing their opening rounds on Friday morning were Jack Doherty of Scotland, Jean Hugo, Keenan Davidse, Francois Coetzee and Drikus Buyns, all of whom carded four-under-par 68s to join Denmark’s Lucas Bjerregaard at one shot off the pace.

Leading with Da Silva with their overnight scores of five-under were defending champion Jaco van Zyl, Warren Abery, South Africa Open champion Morten Orum Madsen of Denmark, England’s Richard Finch and James Kingston.

The second round got underway almost immediately after the first was completed.

“I’m looking forward to my second round, playing on Outeniqua this time,” said Da Silva.

“I noted that the greens were slightly harder during the practice day, but with all the rain we had, they should be fine.”
