Top billing belonged to the Trans Africa Racing Pre-66 Legend Production Cars where Colin Ritchie (Mini Cooper S) won Class Y in both races to clinch the overall title. At the front end of the field, Jaki Scheckter took the day’s opening victory in the Pablo Clark 1965 Ford Galaxie beating Franco Scribante (Remos Ford Mustang) and Jonathan du Toit (TAR Chevrolet Nova) to the flag.
The result of the second heat was initially a carbon copy of the first – but then both Scheckter’s car and that of Scribante failed post race scrutiny. Scheckter’s Galaxie was on illegal tyres, while the rev-limiter of Scribante’s Mustang did not conform to official regulations. Both drivers were disqualified which left Jonathan du Toit (Chev Nova) as the winner, followed by Thomas Falkiner (Ford Mustang) and Mark du Toit (TAR Chev Biscayne).
Marc Miller (1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia) took a class victory and a second place to clinch the overall Pre-66 Little Giants championship. His only title challenger, Colin Ellison, spun his Centlube Alfa Giulia out of contention.
Stuart Greig (TAR Mini Marcos) won both races overall followed, on the first occasion, by Marc Miller and Lawrence Davies (Alfa Giulia). Ellison took the runner-up place the next time around ahead of Marc Miller.
Veteran racer Dennis McBeath (Renault Mtipi) won his class in the Dotsure.co.za Pre-66 Le Mans Sports and GT Car events to clinch the overall title. Fighting for the Class A title Dino Scribante won both races overall in his Scribante Labour Ford GT40.
The first time around he was chased to the flag by Franco Scribante (Remos Ford GT40) and Mark du Toit (TAR Lola T70 Spyder). Franco Scribante jumped the start of race two and incurred a 30-second penalty, leaving Dino Scribante to win from du Toit and Ross Lazarus (Lazarus Motor Ford GT40).
Colin Frost took the year’s Pre-74 Genie ISP title with his Porsche 917. Colin Clay (Genie Lola T70) took the day’s two race victories ahead of Jonathan du Toit (TAR Chevron B8). Peter Jenkins (Nucleus Chains Porsche RSR) won the Metal Used Spares Trans-Am category overall.
Graham Hepburn (Suburban Body Shop Ray) won the Investchem Formula Ford category overall leading home Matthys Strydom (Sage Talon) and Andreas Petrou (Investchem Reynard).
The overall Sabat Batteries Lotus Challenge victory went to Klippies Krige (Lotus Replica 7) ahead of Derek van der Merwe (Birkin Toyota) and Jeff Gable (GAP Birkin Toyota).
The Marlboro Crane Hire Pre-77 Saloon Car category provided two large grids, much close racing, and excellent spectacle. Phillip Pantazis (IMSA Datsun 260Z) won Class B with Anton Raaths (Pnarma Acting Mazda R100), Djurk Venter (Lazarus Ford Capri) and Grant Duckham (Pat Duckham Ford Escort) the winners in Classes C, D and E. Steve Truter (Ford Escort), took Class F, Mile Stewart (Direction Management Capri) Class G and Nikita Nel (Davinci Steel Ford Escort) won in Class H.
John Martin (DKW F11 Junior) won the Marque Cars category overall, followed by Colin Kean (Mercedes-Benz) and Michelle Scott (Ford Escort Mk 11).
