Guards receive Christmas gift vouchers

Reena says seeing the excitement on the guards faces, makes all the fundraising efforts worthwhile.

THE community has raised a whopping R72 000 towards Christmas gift vouchers that will be evenly distributed to all CCPO, ET Rapid and Blue Security guards.

Reena Solomon started the CCPO (Community Crime Prevention Organisation) Christmas appeal initiative nine years ago, to show appreciation as a community to the people who are out there 365/24/7, fighting crime and keeping the community safe.

She said with the help of the community, they are able to spread a little Christmas cheer and make Christmas extra special for those in the frontline. All monies donated will be split between supervisors, guards, street patrollers and response officers.

CCPO’s Craig Upton extended a thank you to businesses, individuals and neighbourhood watch groups who donated, as well as to Reena for all her support throughout the years. “The effort she goes through to raise funds for these guards, with nothing in return, is amazing.”

CCPO’s Paul O’Neill and Craig Upton gift Reena Solomon a Bonsai tree for all her fundraising efforts.

Reena said the shopping vouchers for the guards would not have been possible without the community’s support. However, she said it was a bit disappointing to note that almost all donations came from members, when non-members also call-in for assistance. “We did, however, receive a lot more donations from businesses than in the past,” said Reena.

Despite that, an emotional Reena said seeing the excitement on the guards faces, makes all the fundraising efforts worthwhile.

Reena, the security companies and all their guards extend a thank you to the community for the donations towards their Galleria Mall shopping vouchers.
