Beke Le Beke bags 016 Midvaal tourney again

Beke Le Beke toppled their nextdoor rivals, All Star FC at the Midvaal games soccer finals at the weekend.

SICELO – Beke Le Beke FC brought home yet another 016 Midvaal tourney trophy adding an 8th cup to their clubhouse cabinet.

The Sebokeng-based team appeased their hardcore followers by beating All Stars FC 5-4 on penalties, after a showboating game that led to a one-all draw.

The victorious win of Beke Le Beke not only cleansed the team’s recent bad luck but also lifted the pressure off Coach Xolani ‘Becker’ Cwebe.

This follows their December loss in various tournaments, including the Pooe kasi games, Edgar Festive games, and the United Kingdom Grounds tournament, among many others.

Speaking to Sedibeng Sports following their triumph, Becker said he was honoured to win the tournament for the second time since their involvement.

“We came to this tournament ready. There’s a lot of improvement in our squad after we were knocked out of several tournaments recently. The boys fought hard for this one. They never dropped the ball,” he said.

016 Midvaal soccer tournament was officially established in 2017 to present the youth of Midvaal with opportunities for exposure to the world of sports.

Co-founder of the games, Tokelo Lesotho, who pushed the games alongside Mpumelelo Mthimkulu, said: “The games are aimed at bridging the social divide through Social Cohesion initiatives and charity activities. The games are growing in leaps and bounds, and we would like to appreciate the effort put in by everyone involved from the supporters, teams, local hawkers, and the organizing committee.”

“The vision is taking form and we are looking forward to providing our communities with quality football and opportunities for small businesses and hawkers,” he said.

The 016 Midvaal games comprised 36 teams across the four categories, including netball, master’s football, ladies’ football, and men’s football (open).
