Learners show great acting skills

Laerskool Roodekrans learners showcase exceptional talent in a theatre show.

Eight talented learners from Laerskool Roodekrans had the amazing opportunity of being part of a theatre production called Fladder that was directed, produced, choreographed and written by well-known actor and musician, Angela Sparks.

Not only did they shine as actors and actresses, but they also experienced and explored behind the scenes; they donned the hats of stage managers and sound technicians.

Fladder is a production play that explores the themes of friendships and bullying, among others.

According to Angela, her passion is the youth, and she wants to create love and passion for the arts in them.

She says the learners auditioned and started rehearsals in February, and the talent she saw among them was extraordinary.

Ziané Delport, Alice Grobler, Neil Grobler, Jaydon van Zyl, Meacah Retief, Monique Brits, Diani du Plessis and Jarred Grobler took the stage by storm at their first competition in July at the University of South Africa’s Little Theatre in Pretoria for the Afrikaanse Taal- en Kultuurvereniging (ATKV) Tjokkertoneel (children’s theatre) competition.

Among more than 40 other productions, Fladder stood out and they secured a remarkable top three spot in Gauteng with Ziané named the best actress, and this solidified their spot in the finals.

“A lot of work and dedication went into this play, and the learners got to experience proper theatre and acting,” says Angela.

The excitement grew as they travelled to Cape Town for the grand finale. With nerves of steel and hearts full of passion, they delivered a mesmerising performance. Once again, Fladder claimed a prestigious top three spot, with Ziané nominated for Best Kid Actress in the country.

“My goal is to develop a love for acting in the youth. These learners were amazing, and they grew and learned a lot every time they performed. I’m grateful their passion is ignited and they are now better trained.

“I’m very thankful for the teachers that also came in and assisted us with this play,” Angela concludes.
