Update: Investigations ongoing in Spar at the Berg Centre fire

Other stores at centre trading as usual

The cause of the extensive damage caused by a raging fire in the early morning of 18 July, to the Spar in the Berg Centre is still being investigated.

According to reports, the Spar was burnt down completely, and some of the neighbouring stores suffered some damage, but, according to Martha Padya from Postlink, The Berg – DHL Retail Outlet, all other stores are trading as usual.

“Kindly note that the unfortunate situation which resulted in the closing of the Spar and the few stores next to it, did not affect the whole centre. All other shops are trading as usual including Postlink, The Berg – DHL Retail Outlet, Medicross, Clicks, SpecSavers, The Treat, Barbershop, Fat Cake City, Escobar, KFC, Steers and Fishaways,” she said.

Details of the incident have not been released, but, as soon as comment from the City of Johannesburg’s Emergency Management Services and Spar Head Office is received, an update will be published.
