Another arrest made at Florida Licensing Centre

Second arrest made in two weeks

Operation #BuyaMthetho claimed yet another success at the Florida Licensing Centre, when a suspect was arrested for robbery.

The victim approached the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), after he was robbed of R1 000 by a knife-wielding suspect. The officers arrested the suspect, who was then detained at the Florida Police Station.

This was the second arrest at this centre in two weeks by JMPD officers. During the previous arrest, two male touters were arrested for fraud and corruption, when they offered to provide undercover officers with a driver’s licence, in exchange for R3 500.

The JMPD spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, said that the JMPD was very proud of the good work of its officers, who are helping to fight corruption and restore the rule of law.

“However, we encourage the community to not trust these touters with their personal information, such as identity numbers and driver’s licences, as this is very dangerous. As soon as the criminals have their hands on this info, they can commit more serious crimes, which will result in huge damage and loss to the affected person,” Minnaar said.

He added that the touters are only there to see how much money they can steal from the community, and said, “Do not trust all the wonderful promises made by them; the documents provided by them are not only illegal, they’re just useless pieces of paper. Rather go inside the licensing centre, and follow the correct procedure to ensure your documents are legal.”

“Any suspicious activity, or criminal acts, can be reported to the JMPD on 011 375 5911. This will ensure our officers can act on the information and that justice is served,” Minnaar concluded.
