Two fraudsters arrested at Florida Licensing Station

Officers were dressed in civilian clothing.

Members of the Metro Police’s Internal Affairs Fraud and Anti-corruption Unit arrested two male touters outside the Florida Licensing Centre for fraud and corruption yesterday, 4 July, during Operation Buya Mthetho.

The touters approached the officers who were dressed in civilian clothes and offered to get them a driver’s licence for R3 500 without being examined. The undercover officers gave an ID number and photos to the suspects as requested. An hour-and-a-half later, the officers received a call to collect the driver’s licence. The suspects issued the officer with a fraudulent Code EB temporary driver’s licence.

The face value document produced for the driver’s licence was traced and found to have been stolen from North West Driving Licence Testing Centre. Both suspects were detained at the Florida Police Station.

“The Metro Police will continue to fight corruption and restore the rule of law,” said spokesperson Wayne Minnaar.
