Man seriously injured during hijacking

Confusion as to what exactly happened.

Shots were fired and a young man brutally assaulted with a firearm during a hijacking on Java Street last night (27 February).

When the man arrived at his home at about 8pm he was suddenly surrounded by three men. It is unclear what happened next but shots were recklessly fired, fortunately not hitting the victim. Instead the attackers assaulted him with the firearm. He managed to get into the house, bleeding profusely. The three suspects fled in his vehicle and their getaway vehicle(s).

According to Frik van Zyl of West Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch, about 30 Roodepoort Police members were on the scene within minutes. “They definitely deserve a compliment,” said Van Zyl.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha, “Paramedics arrived at the scene at about 8.40pm and found a 29-year-old man with multiple lacerations from being assaulted. The seriously injured man was treated at the scene before he was transported to hospital under the constant care of an advanced life support paramedic.”
