Baby boy found dumped next to dam in Hendrina

Warrant Officer Mbenekazi, from Hendrina Police Station, said: “The case of child neglect was opened.”

A group of children discovered a crying baby boy near a dam in Hendrina on 8 June.

They called an older boy who they thought would know how to help.

He took the baby to his house and covered him with a blanket.

Once the baby stopped crying and fell asleep, the boy took him to the Hendrina Police Station.

According to Warrant Officer David Mbenekazi, a case of child neglect was opened.

The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit took the abandoned baby to Middelburg Provincial Hospital.

The police asked anyone with information to contact W/O Magagula at 013 293 9023 or W/O Mbenekazi at 079 891 4869.
