POLOKWANE- A group of Gr 11 boys from Curro Heuwelkruin recently undertook a project to beautify the municipal park opposite Oosskool, roping in ward 21 counsellor Johan Retters to accomplish their mission.

The initiative forms part of the boys’ life orientation curriculum at school, in which learners were tasked to form groups and identify a community project.

Everything was set in motion on July 29, when the boys gathered at the park and painted all the structures on the playground.

Paint Pot Polokwane also came on board, by sponsoring the paint.

According to Retters, there is a programme in place for the maintenance of parks in the city.

Justice Mozadze, a dayworker with Johan Retters, Ward 21 counsellor, and the boys from Heuwelkruin, Jaydin Lehman, Calvin Dias, Graeme Engelbrecht and Justin Dias.

“I can, however, not remember when last the park was painted. Bendor has another park in Die Sirkel that needs renovation work on the playground equipment.” He said they would still like to restore and paint some of the broken benches in the park on Bendor Drive, which is also situated in ward 21. Retters thanked the boys, saying their effort would truly benefit children who often frequent the park.
