Former educator and principal Phuti Ragophala during the Department of Basic Education’s National Teaching Awards received the Kader Asmal Award for the sterling work she is doing in various communities in the province in bridging the digital divide.
The ceremony took place in Soshanguve a fortnight ago and Ragophala, in addition to the award , received a monetary prize as well as a laptop, smartphone and more which, according to her, she will use to benefit her educational community projects.
Ragophala, who is also a Skype Master Teacher and Varkey Teacher Ambassador changed her work scenery from traditional classroom teaching and learning to online after realising the digital divide in school communities.
She entered the National Teaching Awards 2019/2020 contest last year and was selected to represent the province at the national event.
Ragophala who is also a committed member of the Rotarians, said she lives by her personal motto: “The moment we become comfortable with challenges in our communities we loss humanity.”
