The Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was shot and killed at around 20:00 in a house in Zamo Section in Vosloorus.

Meyiwa was visiting friends when it thought a robbery occurred. There were seven people in the house at the time.

According to a statement from the SA Police Service (SAPS), two men had allegedly entered the house while a third remained outside.

“A shot was fired, the goalkeeper was hit in the upper body and taken to hospital where he was declared (dead) on arrival,” the statement read.

According to the SAPS’ Twitter account, “suspects fled on foot”.

“A case of murder is under investigation and we (are) appealing to the community to assist with information that will lead to the arrest of the suspects,” the police said in the statement.

“Reward of up to R150 000 is on offer 4 any info that can lead to arrest,” SAPS tweeted.“Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrator(s) can contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or SMS Crime Line at 32211.”
