Police seize over 100 gun magazines in Soshanguve, three arrested

More than 100 magazines for different firearms, packets of spring trigger mesh, riffle grip, a gas tubes, a bolt carrier and slim electric ear muffs were found.

Police arrested three people and recovered more than 100 magazines for different firearms in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said police on a routine patrol along Mokefe Makinta Highway stopped a vehicle with three occupants.

“They searched the vehicle, where two sealed boxes were found.

Upon opening them, police found more than 100 magazines for different firearms, packets of spring trigger mesh, rifle grip, gas tube, bolt carrier and slim electric ear muffs.”

Nevhuhulwi said the magazines were seized and the three were arrested.

She said a case of possession of suspected stolen property and an unlicensed firearm was opened for further investigations.

The three are expected to appear in court soon.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Tommy Mthombeni has commended the police for their vigilance and further encouraged them to continue working hard in removing illegal firearms from the wrong hands.
