Man arrested for ‘raping ex’

“When in Rome, do as the Romans do… same-sex interaction is not an atrocity in Sunnyside, rape is.”

A man has been arrested on a charge of rape, the Sunnyside police have confirmed.

Spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela said the 25-year-old was arrested in Sunnyside on Sunday after a manhunt.

Mavimbela said the victim was a lesbian and the alleged rapist was from one of the Central African countries where same-sex dating was an abomination.

“He wanted to impregnate her.

“He was arrested in a sting operation, and is expected to face a charge of rape in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday,” Mvimbela said.

He said the victim (24) was visiting friend where the suspect and the friend’s boyfriend were also present.

“It is reported that the alleged rape occurred after the couple [the friend and her boyfriend] had left the flat to buy food,” said Mavimbela.

Sunnyside police station commander Brigadier Ramakamakama Kekana condemned the incident.

“It is unacceptable that the suspect, in spite of the victim reportedly making it clear to him that she no longer dated men, saw it fit to enforce his own cultural beliefs on a vulnerable woman.

People must understand that when you are in Rome, do as the Romans do.

Same-sex interaction is not an atrocity in Sunnyside, rape is,” said Kekana, adding that it seemed the victim had previously dated her alleged rapist.

Meanwhile, Operation Kiwi netted 31 arrests for various offences such as assault, robbery, possession of drugs and to rape in Sunnyside at the weekend.
