Staff at the centre are struggling to do their work as money is unavailable.

“We hosted this event at the Hatfield Toyota McCarthy to raise much-needed money for the animals we care for. We really can’t do it alone as there is so much that we do and rely solely on donations,” she said.

De Beer said it was with the help of companies and businesses that the organisation was able to survive.

Colleen Bowen of Lorian’s Cheese said she cared about animals and the cause was close to her heart.

“We came here tonight to show our love of animals and support Wollies who are doing an incredible work to care for the animals,” she said.

Hatfield Toyota McCarthy’s service manager Johan Swart said the reason the motor company supported the organisation was because of the work they did for animals.

“We have been working with Wollies for some time now and with every event we host with them, we aim to raise much-needed money which will go a long way in helping the animals they work with,” he said.

Swart said the fundraiser which included an auction, raised about R15 000 to R20 000 for the centre.

De Beer appealed to the public: “We would really appreciate any help that you can give us. We require money, food and volunteers to keep the Wollies animal project a safe place for animals. If you are able to help us, please get in touch with us.”
