Pretoria’s popular ladies event raises funds for charity

Event held to raise funds for charities in its 9th year.

The prestigious women’s only event Bridge of Hope held in the east of Pretoria continues to grow from strength to strength as it draws closer to a decade.

Organiser Celeste Ras said this year’s theme was Denim and Diamonds and they were happy to see the event’s continued growth.

“The market is full of interesting arts, jewellery, crafts and fashion that most of the people that attend

the event were spoilt with,” said Ras.

One of this year’s beneficiaries were One Wingz of Change run by radio station Hot 91.9 FM. “One Wingz of Change is an initiative where the radio station changes the life of someone less fortunate and desperate, one week at a time through the Mark Scott trust fund. These are people who require anything from medical assistance to those living in shacks or on the streets,” added Ras.

Listeners play a significant role in the selection process of the beneficiary by nominating a person they believe deserved assistance. “They motivate why the plight of that person deserves attention from

One Wingz. We read every motivation and every week we either invite the beneficiary into the studio or go out to the recipient at their location and ease their pain by either providing financial support or appropriate assistance for their cause,” said Ras.

The money raised at the event go as far as helping children from financially constrained families

to further their education.

“Our bursary initiative provides financial assistance or a bursary for someone who really shows potential and hunger to be educated but does not have the means or whose circumstances preclude them from

being able to study.”
