Cupcakes for children with cancer

Shopping malls raise money for children with cancer.

National cupcake day was celebrated across the country in 55 malls on September 26.

September is childhood cancer awareness month and Cupcakes of Hope held its fourth annual money raising event for national cupcake day.

The theme for this year’s event was The sweetest way to save a life.

Kolonnade Retail Park was one of 55 shopping malls across the country to raise money for children suffering from cancer.

Organiser Anzelle Fourie said: “Volunteers from Imagine Cakes and Treats sold 3-D cupcakes at R10 each to raise money from 07:30 at Kolonnade Retail Park. Cupcakes of Hope is a community-driven project with the aim to create awareness and raise money for children with life-threatening diseases.”

More than 200 patients have been assisted with medical and day-to-day expenses so far.

Donations to charities include Cansa, The Sunflower Foundation, Choc Chilhood Cancer Foundation for South Africa and the Nelson Mandela children’s hospital trust,” said Fourie.
