Renowned French coach Herve Renard has been appointed  the national team coach of Morocco.

Renard was sacked by French club Lille earlier this season.

The Frenchman is no stranger to coaching on the African continent, he has won the Africa Cup of Nations tournament twice as a manager with Zambia and current title holders Ivory Coast.

Renard succceds Badou Zaki who was shown the exit door by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation “after 20 months of instability and inconsistent results”.

Renard has his work cut out for his with the Afcon tournament taking place next year, as the qualification campaign to the continental show piece is already underway.

“The first is, of course, qualification for the African Cup of Nations in 2017, it’s not far away, and before that there is the start of qualification for the 2018 World Cup, so it’s a pretty packed schedule,” the Frenchman said.
