Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza has compared the Buccaneers’ plight this season to that of English Premier League side Chelsea.
Pirates are currently 11th on the Absa Premiership log, with six defeats in their first 14 league games, a woefully poor position for a side with so many resources. Similarly, Chelsea are down in 13th in the Barclays Premier League, with nine defeats in their first 23 league games. |
“There is a cycle in football,” said Khoza.
“Chelsea had done everything and now they are 13th in the table. In 1985, Pirates were nearly relegated. We lost to Jomo Cosmos on Saturday and now we are number 11. We are working very hard, it is not a comfortable position, but it is important to experience. You have to understand the feeling of being down there, you can never take your place for granted, and it gives us time to reflect.”
