Pienaar fit for Everton cup clash

Everton coach Robert Martinez has declared Steven Pienaar fit to play in the Toffees’ FA Cup third round clash with Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday.

The 33 year-old former Bafana captain has been battling a knee injury and last played for Everton in a league game against Swansea on April 15, 2015

“It’s a really exciting prospect to see Steven Pienaar out on the pitch again and for him to enjoy his football once more,” Martinez told the official Everton website.

“It’s been a very difficult road for him and everyone is looking forward to seeing him produce the quality he can. It’s a special target for this weekend.

“He’s ready because he’s been able to work for a constant period. We had a behind-closed-doors game which he came through really well and we’ve been able to manage him on a one-to-one basis and now he just needs games and the opportunity to be fighting for his place.”
