“We told them that we think what they are asking for is too much and we cannot afford it.”

The SABC will not be televising Bafana Bafana’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Angola on Friday afternoon because they feel rights holders Sportfive are demanding too much money to give them the game.

Phakaaathi understands that the amount being asked for by Sportfive is US$750 000.

“We could not reach an agreement … we told them that we think what they are asking for is too much and we cannot afford it,” SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago told Phakaaathi on Thursday.

The game will be broadcast live on SuperSport 4. Kick off is 4.30pm SA time. Kganyago confirmed that the SABC will show the second leg of the qualifier, which takes place in Durban on Tuesday.
