Bidvest Wits’ young sensation Phakamani Mahlambi has been included in the South African Under-23 training camp ahead of final qualifying for the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics.
Owen Da Gama’s side have been training in Eldorado Park this week as part of their preparations for the eight-nation Confederation of African Football tournament in Senegal, which runs from November 28 to December 12. The top three teams in that competition will play in the Rio Olympics next year.
Mahlambi was not in the original training squad, but Phakaaathi understands that he has now been called in, following his brilliant form of late for the Clever Boys.
The 18 year-old has scored three times in his last two games for Wits, and has even been compared favourably to Benni McCarthy by Wits coach Gavin Hunt.
