Relations between Kaizer Chiefs and the South African Football Association could be strained further by the latest injury to Itumeleng Khune, with a knee problem set to rule the Amakhosi shot-stopper out for up to six weeks.
Phakaaathi understands that Chiefs were reluctant to release Khune for the recent friendlies against Honduras and Costa Rica, because of concerns over his fitness, but they did so because of their previous run-in with Safa over left-back Tsepo Masilela, who pulled out of the squad for for Afcon 2017 qualifier against Mauritania in September.
Khune injured his knee in training last week and is now out of Bafana’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Angola.
