Bafana keeping an eye on Mathoho, Lebese

Bafana keeping an eye on Mathoho, Lebese

Bafana Bafana say they are monitoring injuries to Kaizer Chiefs duo Erick Mathoho and George Lebese ahead of Friday’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Angola in Benguela.

Mathoho has a calf strain and Lebese has a hamstring strain following Saturday’s Soweto derby win over Orlando Pirates. But Bafana claim these injuries will keep neither out of the Angola clash, and that the same can be said for injuries to goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane and left back Lehlohonolo Nonyane.

“Theirs are not serious injuries, that’s why we have kept them in camp with us. We will just be monitoring them over the next few days. They are undergoing treatment and should be ready on match day,” said Bafana Bafana team doctor Thulani Ngwenya.

Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba, meanwhile, stressed the importance of beating Angola over two legs and qualifying for the World Cup qualifying group stages.

“You know why you are here, none of you needs a reminder. We are playing crucial World Cup qualifiers and you all are aware there is a lot at stake. I believe we have a team to give us positive results, we have no doubt there. We cannot afford to slip up,” he said on addressing his team, after they had safely arrived in Benguela.

Kick off on Friday is 4.30pm SA  time.
