Maritzburg have had a poor start to the season which saw coach Mandla Ncikazi fired after just five games in charge.
Lentjies believes that the string of poor results is not because the team is playing badly, but because they have rather been unlucky.
“We started badly and I feel in some games we were very unlucky. In some games small things turned it against us. If I can pin-point one game, I think only the (BidVest) Wits game is where we played badly. (In) The other games, I think we’ve played fairly well,” he told the club’s website.
He says they are targeting the Telkom Knockout clash against fellow strugglers Jomo Cosmos to earn a much needed and confidence-boosting win.
“We have played them already (in a league game that ended scoreless). This is a cup game, so each team will be hoping for a victory and to boost their confidence for the league,” said the former Mamelodi Sundowns, SuperSport United and Bloemfontein Celtic left winger.
He also expressed his confidence in new coach, Clive Barker, saying that he is the right man to reignite the team.
Maritzburg’s game against Cosmos will take place at Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday at 8pm.
